Linc is Ontario Lieutenant Governor Lincoln Alexander.

One afternoon, I went home with Pei, we were talking about English study. I said, “If I had studied harder before, I would not go to the Linc School. I now understand the meaning of the proverb ‘A young idler, an old beggar’. By far I know why the young girls always like reading the time travel story, they wanted to go back to spend the life once again and remedy the regret in the past”.

Time travel is the concept of moving between different points in time and space. There are both backward and forward time travels.

The famous time travel movie is “terminator series”, they tell the story about Skynet that sends Terminator back to the past to kill the human leader John before he is born and kill John himself as a child.

In China, there were several types of time travel story. I will give two typical examples.

1, The actress lives in present who for some reasons leaves her present time, and makes a time travel to ancient time. She maybe make time travel herself, rebirths as an infant, or her soul attaches a dying girl’s body. Whatever the way she comes, whether she lives in poor or wealth, she always has a brilliant life in that period, because she had the living experiences and skills before.You know, in ancient Chinese man can have many women, but only one is legal. In order to have better living situation, the actress may have fight with her mother, her father’s concubines, her sisters, or other women of her husband.

2, When the actress woke up, she went back to her childhood. As she knew everything in the future, so while studying, she was setting up a firm to develop her career. She arranged her actions in advance and earned much money to change her fate before.

Time travel story meets the young girl’s imagination of beauty, power, love, wealthy, status, etc., and creates a great wonderful world that breaks away from the reality. Time travel story is one style of the net novel. It is easy and popular to read. But some girls are crazy about the story, and then have unrealistic thoughts. They expect to have a time travel and do something.

trip

We have been studying for many days the Canadian Charter of rights. So we had an activity last Wednesday to go to the Ontario Legislative Building. Sharon is a good teacher with much energy and patience. In her class she made so many instances that we can well learn the spirit of the Canadian human rights. We got off the subway train at Queen’s park station. The parliament building is near the station. I have been to the University of Toronto, and  have seen the building, but I do not know it is the Parliament building of Ontario.  We entered the building. A guide took us to visit it. At first, we saw the Speaker’s chair, she told us that when the Speaker retires he can take the chair away. There is a Speaker who retired, but he said that his house was too small to hold the chair, so he left the chair there. Now the Speaker took the copy of the chair home when he retired. Speaker lived in the building with his family. Every Speaker has a HON.(Honourable) title. Then we went to see the Mace with two shining diamonds.  We continued to the other side of the building, the guide told us that this side of the building is supported by marble posts after the fire of 1813. We went upstairs, and saw that the first office in the second floor is Kathleen Wynne’s. Along the aisle we would visit the chamber. On the wall, the door’s left the picture of Queen is hung, the right is Prince Philip’s picture. We entered the chamber, it is not very big. At first, I noticed the Speaker’s chair is in the front of chamber. In front of it there are the clerk’s table and the typewriter’s table. Liberal party is on the left side, NDP and other small parties are on the right side. Kathleen Wynne sits in the sixth in the first row of the left side.

Then the visit was finished.

China is a communist nation. The highest power is grasped tightly by seven people. In China not all the people care about politics. The radio, TV, publishing are controlled by the government. Everyday's news say China is the best in the world, the situation is peaceful, and the leaders devote their life to the country, however, outside China the situation is terrible. This happens everyday. When we were young, we trusted the government,because

we only can get the information from the tongue of the party—the newspaper, TV, radio, and political study. But now, the Internet has developed very quickly, we can share the information in every place in the world. Someone posted something in the Internet, people can see it in the other side of the world less than one minute. In China, if a big accident happens, the local officials maybe hide the truth, otherwise they would be punished by the government. But not all the messages can be kept secret, more or less it may be leaked. Someone living near the place may have knew it, he may tell his  friends with chat applications in the Internet. The message spreads quickly and makes a huge impact. Now, people can supervise officials through the Internet.It is often not the supervision department who found the crime clue first.  

So people in China want the politics to be more transparent, and based on three principles--openness, fairness and justice.

In Canada, people have the right to criticize the leaders, if the leaders have done or said something wrong, they may be abused, and even be dismissed.

HAPPINESS

Esmail made a presentation about happiness. Then I wanted to say sth.

People are divided three levers. The lowest care only about their fundamental physical demands, such as eating, drinking and playing. The second level promote their life quality, they would concentrate in their hobbies. The highest would pursue the peace of the soul, and they are often involved in the charity activities.

I think I belong to the first level. We came to Canada, we must survive at first. Everyone likes money, but how much is enough? People have unlimited desire. I want to win lottery, but I know it is not very realistic. So we must do our best and try to live more comfortable. Maybe someday my family has the ability to feedback the society. Not only can the rich do good deeds, but also can the ordinary people do. Guided by what you are feeling in the heart, you will have a reasonable expectation about the physical and life demands, Both too high and too low would lead to imbalance of the mind. modern diseases

Four modern diseases mentioned by Dr. Grout are obesity, diabetes, diarrhea, and arthritis.

With the development of the society, people can eat diverse foods. If the food includes too much oil, salt, sugar and artificial coloring, and people eat a lot and do not have enough physical exercises, they will be obese. It can cause high blood pressure, diabetes, digestive disorders, and liver injury.

In order to treat the disease, the doctor prescribes excessive antibiotics which may cause problems for the immune system and diarrhea.

Under pressure of the study and work, people cannot relax. This will cause the mental disease.

ice hockey

It is the first time that I have watched the ice hockey game in site. I felt this game was so exciting but rude. The sportsmen slided on ice with high speed, and used the stick to push the puck. They cooperated very well and accurately passed the puck. It was so fierce a game that the sportsmen were changed every few minutes to maintain high speed movement and physical strength. To get the puck, they may collide, shove, even fight with each other. The game is so dangerous, the sportsmen may be injured at the bones, hit head, the most horrific is throat cut by skates blade.

the days without power

Dec.20, I did not get up early as usual, my daughter and I stayed in bed until 9 o’clock. We were very happy because it would be a long holiday of two weeks. After I called my father on Saturday midnight, I went to bed and thought about many things that I wanted to do tomorrow.

Unfortunately, a new day began, the power is out. I thought the hydro would  be back soon.  In July, a heavy storm caused the power outage, but the power got recovered soon, it did not affect the life. I thought it may be a little accident. I still prepared the meal for moon. My husband was listening to the radio, he went downstairs and told me that the power was down, maybe it would take seventy-two hours to repair the line. So we went to the supermarket and  bought some food that can be stored and  need not to be heated. The temperature of the room was fifteen degree celsius, so we had to wear the thick coat which is usually worn outside the house. I couldn’t do anything I want.

On Monday we went to the library, there were so many people, all the jacks are full of plugs. In the library we felt warm. In these two days, we were tired of eating bread, so we went to sears to have Chinese food.  

 On Tuesday Dec 24, we went to the library too, the library would be closed at 1 o’clock. According to the internet news, we knew that near the library there was a warm center that we can go for sheltering. We visited the warm center, and then went home. The house was not warm anymore. We poured the hot water into two plastic boxes that served as a heater.

 On Wednesday, we went to the warm center again at 11 o’clock. I met a Linc school classmate there and chatted with her about how we survived in those dark and cold days. I knew some Chinese friends over there, we exchanged some ideas about the life in Canada. This warm center offered food, hot water, and snacks. I was grateful for the government’s emergency action and the firms that had donated the food. I am willing to help others when I have ability.

 On Thursday, the boxing day, we were fortunate that the power was back at five fifty, thank for the hard work of the Hydro workers. We went to the sears and bought some clothes for my husband.

 Our life returned back to the normal order.
